A native of Lima, Peru, Luis Antonio Gálvez- Alcántara, possessor of a dark, full-bodied lyric voice has become one of the most sought after tenors in the Chicago area and was recently invited to perform at the Vatican in Rome, Italy.  His operatic roles have included Don Jose in Carmen, Rodolfo in La Boheme, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly and Alfred in Die Fledermaus sung throughout the United States from California to New York. 

Recent performances include guest soloist with the Lincoln Early Music Festival in Lincoln, England and soloist in the Peruvian Independence Day celebrations at the Daley Center as well as the Messenger in Verdi’s Aida with Opera Birmingham, Mozart’s Missa Brevis in B-flat with Brooklyn New York’s Park Slope Singers, a “Tenors of the Americas” recital with Metropolitan Opera tenor Roy Cornelius Smith in historic St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in the Bronx, New York and the stunningly dramatic Stabat Mater by Stanford for Winnetka Congregational Church Concert Series. 

He has also performed Chano in Gimenez's Zarzuela Luis Alonso with Jarvis Conservatory, Alfred in Die Fledermaus with Intimate Opera, The Prince in Rusalka with Opera for the Young, Bach’s Magnificat and Cantata 140 with Bach and Beyond, Handel’s Messiah, and “Siete canciones populares españolas” by De Falla and “La Jota” from La Dolores by Bretón.  He also appeared in concert with the Northwest Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Judson Symphony, Saint Ignatius Chamber Orchestra, a recital tour in Peru and concerts in the Caribbean, aboard the new ship “Costa Atlantica”.

Luis is a founding member and the executive director of the North Shore Opera Hour – Where music and passion meet!  This new performance group premiered its first show this year at Christ Church in Winnetka with scenes from Strauss’ Die Fledermaus.

Mr. Gálvez-Alcántara has received the most distinguished award offered by the Association of Peruvian Institutions in the U.S. and Canada for his excellence and commitment to the Peruvian community as a valuable contributor to promoting cultural diversity.   He is a graduate of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and is a member of the voice faculty in the Theatre Conservatory at Roosevelt and Sherwood Conservatory of Music at Columbia College.
